Accident Claim Form
One all too familiar email we receive is that of an individual inquiring as to whether their elderly mother or father has a chance to claim compensation for an accident. We used to think this was because the interweb and that emailing thing were not the style of those over 50. The assumption was that most would simply open the Yellow Pages.
But, on following up and interviewing some, the actual mother or father who would be making the claim often had the same sort of line. "I wasn't going to contact a solicitor myself, it was my son's/daughter's idea, I don't want to make a fuss, it's not that bad!" At the time pressing down on the broken limb, somehow trying to hold it in place.
A far cry from the 22 year olds asking how many thousands they will get for being traumatised by an aggressive drunk on a Tuesday afternoon.
As the Chief of Norwich Union once said, "We've turned in to a nation of wimps!" ... okay, that's not quite what he said - I might be paraphrasing a bit ... but it definitely had something to do with how people tend to seek compensation for things because they don't actually expect anything bad to happen to them. Whereas, those who lived through one, or even two, wars sees a slip in the street as nothing in the big scheme of things.
The phrase "I'll never get over it" should never be applied to tripping on a can of soup in Asda. And if it's that traumatic, why not use the money for psychiatric treatment instead of blowing it on a holiday to Majorca?
